On
7, January, 2004 there took place a traditional Christmas
Half-marathon. Number 13 turned out to be lucky for both the
organizers and participants, as there were set a few records.
To begin with, there started 1059 lovers of run in the
frost-compared to 699 runners last year. Most of them are Omskovites
or residents of Omsk oblast.
The geography of participation is traditionally broad - 11
regions of Russia and 8 foreign countries, including 3 runners
from the continent unfamiliar with snow or frost - Australia
and New Zealand.
Besides, solely in order to make a film about our unique run
there came a
group of sports journalists from distant Austria. The
mild weather (-10 C) allowed the so-called walruses (icy
water divers) to wear their accustomary
trunks, on the one hand, and welcomed the audience to stay on
from the very beginning to the end of the race, on the other
hand.Thousands of spectators at the square cheered the winners
of the official 21 km race:

13-year-old history of the half-marathon has not seen such a
young and sucessful trinity of winners as this year's record-holders
among women.Last year's best time 1:43.36 shown by Irina Sukhorukova
was beaten this year by the 3d place winner.
The ambulance brigade headed by heavily bandaged and plastered
participant № 160 Pavel Ivanishchev carried on stretchers by
his run-mates won the best outfit petition.
